Argyle fans get a glimpse of Home Park's future
Plymouth Argyle fans have been offered another glimpse of their stadium's future with the release of an architect's image of the planned replacement to the existing Mayflower grandstand.
The image depicts the new stand within a resplendent looking Home Park, full to capacity and lit up as it plays host to an imagined Devon derby game between the Pilgrims and rivals Exeter City.
The proposals submitted by Argyle chairman James Brent's Akkeron Group, have been submitted to Plymouth City planners and form part of an ambitious £50m redevelopment project for Higher Home Park.
The plans. if approved, would see improvements to Central Park, the building of a new state-of-the-arty ice rink and a ten-screen cinema with iMax, as well as a hotel, shops and restaurants.
Argyle’ manager John Sheridan told the club's website: “It will make Home Park the best stadium in the division and it’s something to really look forward to.
“It’s really exciting and I wish that we had it now. The chairman has done really well and there are really exciting times ahead.”
The club have announced a contingency if the grandstand plans are approved in time for construction to begin during the coming season:
"If the current Mayflower Grandstand is unavailable next season because of the start of the planned rebuild, all existing Mayflower Members will be able to choose a new seat elsewhere in the stadium:
"Current Mayflower Members who are Members when a new grandstand opens will be given priority choice of available seating in the new grandstand."
The plans are expected to go before city councillors in July or August. If plans are approved, work could begin as early as September.
