Manager John Sheridan sent out the same starting line-up that beat Bristol Rovers seven days previously, but they were unable to prevent another dip in what has already been a season of swings in form for Argyle.

Three second-half goals, including two that came within the space of four minutes, gave Wycombe a comfortable victory at Home Park.

Buoyed by three wins on the trot including the Johnstone's Paint Trophy win against Exeter, Wycombe's confidence must have been high, though a tight match looked likely.

In fact neither side produced much persuasive quality in the first half and despite a flurry of corners for the visitors, 0-0 at the break was about right. The Pilgrims began the second half promisingly, creating some decent attacking openings; but with the deadlock unbroken, it was Wycombe who found the necessary piece of magic - and the back of the net via a stunning strike by Sam Wood.

Andre Blackman and Andres Gurrieri replaced Marvin Morgan and Hamza Bencherif, but they were two behind before they had time to make any impact, when Dean Morgan pounced in the box as Argyle's defenders seemed to hesitate to clear the ball.

Billy Knott made the scoreline emphatic in the last minute, to leave Argyle with more head scratching to do and in another dip to climb out from.

Wycombe climb into fifth place and the play-off places, while Argyle are 16th. A trip to Scunthorpe follows next weekend.
