Bryony Frost Welcomes Retired Champion Frodon into Her Stables

Devon’s champion jockey Bryony Frost has welcomed the recently retired Frodon into her stables following the bay gelding’s retirement from competitive racing. The relationship between rider and horse goes back a long time, with the pair enjoying an incredible 11 victories together. With Frodon’s standout wins at the 2019 Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham and the 2021 Champion Chase at Down Roya under his belt, he’ll begin life away from the limelight at Frost’s Dartmoor home alongside her other horses.

His owner, Paul Vogt, decided to take the horse out of action after what proved to be his final race at the King George VI Chase in December 2023. Fittingly, this end-of-year showpiece was where he remarkably captured the victory as a 20-1 outsider with Frost as his rider in 2019. The jockey, who became the first female to win a Grade 1 race at the Cheltenham Festival because of that triumph, has vowed to look after Frodon as well as he looked after her on the race track.

She’s already enjoyed success on TV with presenting gigs on ITV, been hired by various brands, organisations and charities to support their activities. She's also became the first jockey to adorn The Sunday Times Magazine’s front cover.

Having spent considerable time with the acclaimed National Hunt trainer Paul Nicholls, Frost is now working hard on developing her own stud. She wants to syndicate horses trained by Jimmy Frost, her father, at the family stables. It’s a growth market with a number of platforms making it easy to buy a share in a racehorse. Whether purchasing for personal use or gifting shares to friends and family, syndication is giving race fans another way to immerse themselves in the sport they love.

With Frost’s experience and family heritage, it wouldn’t be surprising to see her unearth the next big winner. Born in April 1995, she was perhaps destined for success. After all, her father, Jimmy rode the winner at the 1989 Grand National.

Her journey to becoming a prominent figure in horse racing began with a highly successful pony racing career, where she notched up an impressive 50 wins and clinched the Devon and Cornwall Champion title multiple times. Her talent didn't go unnoticed as she secured her first Leading Lady Rider Championship for Devon and Cornwall in 2013, repeating the feat in 2016. Transitioning to Point to Point racing, Bryony continued her winning streak, amassing an astounding 56 victories and triumphing in nine Hunter Chases.

In 2015, Bryony made waves by claiming the National Lady Jockeys N.H Championship while riding as an amateur. She turned professional in 2017, but success wasn’t immediate. She would have to wait two years for her breakthrough moment as a professional when riding Frodon in 2019.

Since then, Frost has continued to soar to new heights, claiming prestigious wins such as the British Conditional Jockeys title for the 2018-19 season and securing victories in Grade 1 events like the Tingle Creek chase and the Ladbrokes Champion Chase. With her unwavering talent, determination, and trailblazing spirit, Frost remains a shining star in the world of horse racing.
