Defeat for Argyle in relegation dogfight
York City 2 Plymouth Argyle 0
League Two, Monday 1st April 2013
The euphoria of Saturday's derby win against Exeter turned out to be shortlived as a bank holiday hangover proved to be the downfall for Plymouth Argyle at York.
First half goals from Ashley Chambers and Richard Creswell left the Pilgrims chasing the game, but a tired looking Argyle side drew a blank. York's first win in seventeen games gives them renewed hope of survival alongside Aldershot the other club in the bottom two who also won. It also means that Plymouth's recent upwards momentum towards safety, with three wins in three, is halted and they, together with several other clubs, remain in a relegation dogfight in League Two.
Manager John Sheridan tried all he could to freshen up the attack with second half substitutions but to no avail despite Plymouth's plentiful possession. Saturday's home game against promotion chasing Cheltenham will be yet another crucial test as the pressure mounts.
