The community tickets launch for Rugby World Cup 2015 has been unexpectedly delayed following a request booking agents, Ticketmaster.

500,000 tickets, available in limited numbers from  clubs and RFU affiliated organisations, were expected to go on sale this afternoon (Friday 16 May)  as part of the build-up to next year’s World Cup games.

But rugby fans will now have to wait until 1pm on 29 May following a  last-minute request from Ticketmaster for more time to test the online ticketing system.

The September launch for the general sale of world cup tickets is unaffected by today’s delay.

Earlier this month Exeter began its 500 day count down to the Cup games at Chiefs’ home ground Sandy Park by announcing the tickets sales.

Speaking at the launch Cllr Rosie Denham, Exeter City Council Lead Councillor for Economy and Culture, said: “It’s a very exciting day for Exeter and rugby fans across the South West. Our local clubs can now apply for tickets, rewarding loyal fans of the game. The local response for volunteers has been fantastic. We were oversubscribed and are looking forward to the Try Out sessions in July.

"Rugby World Cup 2015 is a fantastic opportunity for Exeter, Devon and the South West to be part of one of the world’s biggest and best sporting occasions, here in the heartland of English rugby. Planning is well underway on everything from transport arrangements to the city centre fanzone. Today it feels as if the excitement is really starting to build."

Sandy Park hosts three Rugby World Cup 2015 fixtures:
Tonga v Africa 1, 29 Sep, 16.45 (Pool C)
Africa 1 v Georgia, 7 Oct, 20.00 (Pool C)
Italy v Romania, 11 Oct, 14.30 (Pool D)
