Devon Demons v Kings Lynn Preview
Former Plymouth rider James Cockle returns to the St Boniface Arena as captain of the visiting King’s Lynn Young Stars in a National League match on Saturday evening (7.15pm), writes Graham Hambly.
Cockle, a 28-year-old Londoner, has established himself as a middle order rider with an average of over seven points a meeting.
Devon have called up Brendan Johnson from Mildenhall as a guest replacement for Tim Webster, who will miss the remainder of the season with a broken leg.
Co-promoter Ashley Taylor says: “We have brought in the best possible guest for Tim because we owe it to the Plymouth supporters to put on a good show.
“There may be nothing to race for as far as the league is concerned, but we have a responsibility to our paying customers top ensure that they have some good entertainment.”
King’s Lynn are also without their number one Lewis Rose, because of a knee injury, and Ben Morley from Kent will be the guest replacement while Scunthorpe’s Sam Chapman fills in for Tom Stokes.
Following the match against King’s Lynn, the Demons, sponsored by the University of St Mark and St John, have four more home fixtures in the National League.
They face Mildenhall (Friday October 10), Stoke (Saturday October 18), Buxton (Saturday October 25) and Coventry (Friday October 31).
Devon: Brendan Johnson, Richard Andrews, James Shanes, Luke Chessell, Matt Bates. Reserves: Adam Sheppard, Tyler Govier.
