Laura Robson aims for Wimbledon's second week
Wimbledon Day 6
Laura Robson faces her third round match at Wimbledon today (Saturday 29 June) hoping to progress to the tournament's second week for the first time.
Robson safely negotiated her rain delayed second round match against Mariana Duque-Marino, winning 6-4 6-1 to make the last 32.
A win today would take Robson into the last 16 equalling the 19-year-old's best performance in a Grand Slam, achieved at the US Open last year. She plays Marina Erakovic of New Zealand on No. 2 Court.
Andy Murray was too good for Spain's Tommy Robredo yesterday, winning his third round match in straight sets 6-2 6-4 7-5 to ease through to the last 16 on Monday. He will face either Mikhail Youzhny or Viktor Troicki who play today.
Other men's contenders safely through yesterday included David Ferrer of Spain, the fourth seed.
Germany's Angelique Kerber, the women's number seven seed, was the latest top player to fall in SW19 yesterday. She was beaten by Kaia Kanepi of Estonia, 3-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-3.
Serena Williams, the number one seeded and clear favourite for the title, plays the unseeded Kimiko Date-Krumm of Japan on Court No. 1 today.
Men's number one seed, Novak Djokovic meets Jeremy Chardy of France, the number 28 seed, on Centre Court. The number nine seed Richard Gasquet plays Croatian Bernard Tomic in one of the day's most intriguing encounters.
Petra Kvitová of the Czech Republic, the women's eighth seed faces Russian Ekaterina Makarova, seeded 25.
