Morecambe v Plymouth Argyle

Sky Bet League Two, Saturday 31st August 2013, kick-off 3pm

After two straight wins, Plymouth's season is off and running and ths afternoon's encounter with Morecambe provides a further opportunity to build confidence for the marathon ahead.

Argyle are up to ninth in the table and manager John Sheridan will be looking for further signs of his side's potential against a Morecambe side who have managed just one win and a draw from their first four league games.

The Shrimps, managed by Jim Bentley, beat Exeter 2-0 last Saturday but lie 19th, though a second successive home win would actually lift them above Plymouth - a reminder that club's are still jostling for position at this early stage.

The Lancashire club lost their Capital One Cup second round tie against Premier League Newcastle United 2-0 on Wednesday evening, despite an impressive effort.

Plymouth did not play midweek, which may provide an advantage in terms of the early season fatigue that two games a week can enduce. John Sheridan will also recall last season's victory against the Shrimps at Home Park, his first game in charge of the Pilgrims.

Argyle also won the corresponding away fixture last season, 3-2, but will know that will have little bearing on today's encounter. Both sides have changed personnel since that game and will face a fresh test of their comparative qualities at the Globe Arena today.

Argyle will need a more even performance than the one against Rochdale last Saturday, but will draw strength from having held on for three points in that tight game. Onward Pilgrims!
