Match Preview: Rochdale v Plymouth Argyle - come on you Pilgrims!
Rochdale v Plymouth Argyle
League Two, Saturday 27 April 2013, 3.00pm
So this is it. Today is D-Day for Argyle as the final game of the season arrives with the Greens still uncertain of their Football League status next season.
A win away at Rochdale would ensure Plymouth play football in League Two in 2013/14. A draw would provide the same outcome given Argyle's superior goal difference to AFC Wimbledon who sit next to bottom in the table. John Sheridan's side cannot be caught by bottom placed Aldershot.
A defeat to the mid table Lancashire side would leave the Pilgrims reliant on other results. Fans may have one ear open to news of AFC Wimbledon's home game against Fleetwood Town and to other games among the bottom clubs.
Those are the facts, but with their destiny in their own hands, Argyle will surely have all the motivation they need for one of the most important days in their history. Avoidance of relegation the only mission.
Two penalties from Guy Madjo and a strike by Andres Gurrieri gave Plymouth a 3-1 victory at home to Rochdale in the home tie back in October. Recently, Plymouth have hit a strong run of form, interspersed with frustratingly, and arguably undeserved, narrow defeats such a last Saturday's 1-0 loss to Rotherham at Home Park.
Manager John Sheridan has no major injury concerns ahead of the game. Speaking about the team's preparation for the match, he told BBC Radio Devon: "We've done things right and hopefully everything we've done we'll take into the game and hopefully get the result we're after."
All of Plymouth will hope so too. Come on you PiIgrims!
