Plymouth diving duo set to defend synchro title
Plymouth's Sarah Barrow and Tonia Couch were disappointed to finish outside the medal places in the women's 10m platform event at the European Championships in Rostock yesterday (Wednesday 19 June).
The pair were each thought to be in with a chance of the bronze in the individual event, with Couch in particular expected to challenge. However Barrow finished an agonising 4th and Couch 5th as Ukraine's Iuliia Porkopchuck took gold and Russia's Yulia Koltunova the silver, while Germany's Maria Kurjo clinched bronze.
24-year-old Sarah Barrow tweeted:
"Disappointed with 4th on individual. One of those shoulda woulda coulda moments".
The duo will team up to defend their European Championship title in the 10m synchro today in Germany.
Barrow and Couch won gold in Eindhoven last year, the first female European Diving Championship medals for 74 years. They beat Ukraine in to second place.
