Plymouth to host public screening of England's clash with Croatia
Plymouth WILL host a public screening of England’s once-in-a-generation clash with Croatia on Wednesday evening.
The Council have teamed up with Plymouth Argyle to swiftly erect big screens at Home Park so that families and friends can enjoy the occasion together.
Entry will be completely free of charge and should England be victorious, the event will be repeated for the final on Sunday.
The Three Lions take on the Croatians in Moscow at 7pm, hoping to win a place in their first World Cup final since 1966.
Councillor Pete Smith, Deputy Leader, said: “We are excited to be able to team up with Argyle to put this event on for the people of Plymouth.
“The England football team have captured the nation with their passion for the shirt and so it’s only right that we as a city give people the opportunity to enjoy this wave of optimism and excitement together.
“I’d like to thank the team at Argyle for their support in helping to make this event possible.”
Interim Argyle Chief Executive Mark Lovell added: “We were delighted to be asked by Plymouth City Council to partner in this event, which means Plymouth can join the rest of England in our enjoyment of this World Cup.
“Home Park has been the scene of great success for Argyle in recent years; we would love to be able to celebrate England advancing to the final and maybe even lifting the trophy, with the rest of our beautiful city.
“We are proud of Argyle’s position in the community, and to welcome thousands of England fans for this special occasion will reinforce that.”
Several other venues to show the match were considered, but Argyle were chosen as hosts because of their professionalism, experience in hosting large scale events and exemplary safety record.
We will be installing two temporary screens in front of the iconic Lyndhurst Stand. Although entry will be free, the event will be ticketed. Tickets are available from the Argyle Ticket Office on 01752 907700; from www.eticketing.co.uk/pafc; or in person at Home Park.
Tickets will be available on the gate, on the day, if they remain. Fans are advised to contact the Home Park Box Office in advance to avoid queuing, delays and disappointment.
Gates will open from 5.30pm and refreshments will be available from kiosks inside the stadium. Supporters will be allowed to take their beverages to their seats during the game.
