Last week The Football Association celebrated its 150th anniversary and, with the First Round of The FA Cup approaching, Alison Seabeck, MP for Plymouth Moor View, took the opportunity to get her hands on the actual trophy at a reception in Parliament.

Alison said: “It was a real privilege to be in the same room as some of football’s greats including Trevor Brooking but being that close to the FA cup was really special.   Football has come such a long way since that first meeting back in 1863 which created the first laws of the game.  And today the game plays a huge part in the lives of millions across the country and as I saw yet again at Home Park on Saturday the commitment and passion is very strong in Plymouth.  The good news is that it was rewarded with a win.

“As the first round of the FA Cup kicks off this weekend I know football fans up and down the country will be keeping a close eye on results and, along with the Green Army, dreaming of the final at Wembley in May next year.”

In England there are seven million players of all ages and backgrounds who regularly play the game, as well as 400,000 volunteers, 300,000 coaches and 27,000 referees.
