Plymouth's Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow lose Euro diving title
Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow were unsuccessful in their attempt to defend their 10m synchro European title in Germany yesterday (Thursday 20 June).
The duo finished second in the European Diving Championships in Rostock, winning silver to go with their gold medals from last year.
The Russian pair of Yulia Koltunova and Natalia Goncharova won the gold, with Germans Maria Kurjo and Julia Stolle in the bronze medal position.
The 24-year-old Plymouth diving stars led after two rounds of the competition but slipped back in the third with low scores that allowed the Russians to take the lead.
Despite their achievement, the pair will feel disappointed at losing their title after missing out on individual medals in the 10m platform on Wednesday. However Couch and Barrow remain the most successful British female diving pair in modern times and will now look ahead to the World Championships in Barcelona in a few weeks time.
