Transplant team members to represent Team GB
Five members from the Plymouth Transplant Games Team have been called up to represent Team GB at the 20th World Transplant Games in Argentina 2015.
The five inspirational individuals, who are all recipients of kidney transplants, competed at this year’s British Transplant Games in Bolton and have been chosen to represent Great Britain because of their success at this year’s Games or in previous years. They include:
- Janet Jenkins (Team Manager), who received her transplant in 2002 and has represented Team GB at the World Games in Canada 2005 and Bangkok 2007
- Tracy Carroll, who received her transplant in November 2011 and competed for the first time at this year’s games
- Bradley Ball, who received his transplant in October 2012 and competed for the first time at this year’s games
- Terry Wright, who received his transplant in 2002 and has previously represented Team GB at the World Transplant Games five times
- Keith Parsons, who received his transplant in 2009 and has represented team GB in South Africa 2013, winning a silver medal in the Long Jump.
Claire West, Deputy Team Manager said: “The whole team demonstrates the importance of organ donation and what a difference a transplant can make to someone’s life. Those who have been chosen to represent Team GB are truly inspirational.”
The purpose of the World Transplant Games it to demonstrate the benefits of successful organ transplantation, increase public awareness of its success and increase organ donation rates, as well as to promote the full rehabilitation and wellbeing of participants. They will take place from 23rd - 30th August 2015.
