Prospective students will get the chance to see the combination of first class facilities and second-to-none student experience that has earned Plymouth a place among the world’s top 300 universities..

Around 5,000 students have booked to attend the Undergraduate Open Day on Saturday 19 October, where they and their families will be given a flavour of what the campus and the wider city has to offer.

Plymouth was this month ranked in the top 300 universities globally in the Times Higher World University Rankings, having previously been named one of the world’s five greenest universities and winning the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education in 2012.

Professor David Coslett, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Plymouth University, said: “At Plymouth, we are committed to creating opportunities for our students to develop both academically and personally as they begin the next chapter of their lives. Our Open Days offer prospective students the chance to see how they might achieve this at one of the country's leading universities, and in this fantastic city. Together, we can inspire them to exceed their expectations.”

The Open Day will provide an opportunity to tour the Halls of Residence, with a guarantee to provide university-managed living accommodation for all applicants who choose Plymouth as their firm, first choice institution and apply for accommodation before 31st July 2014.

The day also features presentations and advice on the main issues affecting prospective students, including budgeting workshops, assistance with the application process and support on fees and funding. Special sessions are also tailored for parents and guardians to answer any questions they may have ahead of their child leaving home for the first time.

There will also be talks about specific subject areas, with the chance to meet some of the University’s world class academics, current students and recent graduates, as well as tours of the wider city to see the huge range of facilities and opportunities it offers Plymouth students.

Student Recruitment Manager Cassandra Hickling said: “Plymouth’s commitment to providing an outstanding student experience starts at Open Day, and we are constantly looking at the best ways to keep it inspiring and informative for students and their families. We hope they will see Plymouth is an exciting and enterprising place to be, where employability is embedded into extra-curricular as well as academic activities.”

The Open Day on Saturday 19 October runs from 9am-4.30pm, and more information is available at www.plymouth.ac.uk. If you are unable to attend on that day, contact the Student Recruitment team on 01752 585858 or email prospectus@plymouth.ac.uk.
