Fatal accident results in M5 closure
The M5 Devon is currently closed following a fatal accident involving one vehicle.
The M5 has been closed between junction 27 and 26 northbound this afternoon. It followed a serious single vehicle road traffic collision, which happened shortly before 4pm.
A car is reported to have left the motorway and gone down an embankment, ending up in a field. The incident has been confirmed as a fatal collision and the motorway has been closed to enable collision investigators to examine the scene.
It is belived the motorway could be closed for some time, so the public need to be aware of delays and where possible seek alternative routes.
Vehicles are being taken off the motorway at junction 27 and sent along the A38 to re-join the motorway at J26.
Avon and Somerset Constabulary thank motorists for their patience and remind them of the need to drive with care in the bad weather conditions which are being experienced today.
