8 Ways to Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Didn't sleep well last night? The Plymouth Daily is here to help with 8 ways to get a good night's sleep...
#1 – Maintain a Sleep Schedule
In order to wake up renewed every day, you need to maintain a regular sleep schedule. You should go to bed at the same time every day (the same goes for waking up). This rhythm will certainly keep you vital throughout the day. Remember not to alter your schedule. Of course, fifteen minutes here or there won’t make that much of a difference.
#2 – Eat and Drink Responsibly
Remember to eat at least two hours before going to bed. This won’t be hard to do if you already have a sleep schedule. Eating responsibly will help prevent any type of discomfort regarding indigestion. However, you shouldn’t also go to sleep hungry, as that will also provide you with a lot of unnecessary discomfort. Also, control how much you drink before going to bed. Watch out for caffeine and alcohol consumption, as both of these substances can prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep.
#3 – Workout Daily
Doing any type of exercise during the day will help you sleep calmer at night. Running and exercises that include stretching are the most recommended ones, because you need to loosen all the tense muscles in your body. When you are tired because of physical activities, you are sure to fall asleep faster. Nevertheless, you shouldn’t workout too close to your bedtime, as you might be too energised to fall asleep.
#4 – Think about the Good Things that Happened Today
It is important that you feel calm and positive before going to sleep. Think about the things that happened throughout the day that are sure to bring a smile to your face. This will allow your mind to relax a bit, ultimately leading to your sleeping phase.
#5 – Read a Book
Books can be a great tool for making you fall asleep at night. However, you should know your limits, as you shouldn’t alter your sleeping schedule because you are eager to read the next page. Books will take your focus away from any unpleasant situations in the real world, and might spark your imagination and make your dreams more vivid.
#6 – Create a Bedtime Ritual
Creating a bedtime ritual will help you feel tired around the same time every day. This goes hand in hand with your sleeping schedule. A bedtime ritual, such as reading a book or watching a TV show will make your mind know that you’re going to sleep afterwards. This will make you feel tired around the same time every day, and fall asleep quicker.
#7 – Relax and Clear Your Mind
A common mistake is wrapping your mind around sleeping. You should rather think about, and go towards complete relaxation. Meditation and visualization will make you prepared to go into a deep sleeping phase. Clear your mind and try not to think about everything that awaits you the next day. If you are not relaxed, then you won’t get the rejuvenation you need, and you won’t be able to do everything that you planned for the next day.
#8 – Make Your Bed Comfortable
It is important that you tidy your bed. Set it up the way that will make it perfect for you. Either cover it in some calming colours, or add as many pillows as you please. You should be able to feel like you are sleeping on a cloud.
