Last chance to see two major exhibitions

Visitors to Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery have until 10 May to catch two significant exhibitions highlighting the work of two great artists.

‘New Sculpture and Works on Paper’ is the first major exhibition in the region for 25 years by Devon-based artist, Peter Randall-Page. It‘s also the first time in many years that he has shown a series of completely new pieces.

Peter takes a lot of his inspiration from the natural world and the exhibition at the Museum and Art Gallery features a series of large-scale ink drawings that investigate mirror image symmetry, branching and root patterns.

Also on display until 10 May is a touring exhibition from the National Portrait Gallery, London featuring paintings by one of the most popular and pioneering British artists of the 20th century.

'Laura Knight Portraits' highlights the life and career of Dame Laura Knight (1877-1970), who rose to the top of her profession and gained a status equal to that of the most successful male artists of her time.

The exhibition has had rave reviews since it opened earlier in the spring and traces Knight's career from Cornwall to the USA and from the circus and theatre to the Nuremberg Trials.

Both exhibitions are open from 10am to 5.30pm Tuesday to Friday and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays. Admission is free and there is no need to book.
