Are you a keen runner? Could you inspire others to get on the road to an active lifestyle? Then step up!

Plymouth City Council's sports development unit is looking for people like you to train as running leaders and help expand their beginners’ running network.

Thanks to funding from England Athletics the team is offering free places on the ‘Leadership in Running Fitness’ course, which gives you all the skills you need to get people of all ages and abilities up and running. Places normally cost £150.

Sports development manager Louise Kelley said: “We’ve had a massive increase in the number of people wanting to join our running groups and we need new leaders to help meet demand. Since April we have had more than 150 people sign up, many of whom have never run before.”

Deputy Council Leader Peter Smith said: “These sessions wouldn’t happen without our volunteers, who give up their time to support others. Training as a running group leader means you can help inspire new runners and encourage those who are more experienced to take on new challenges.”

The one-day course is running on 1 November in Taunton and on 15 November in Exeter. Once trained, new leaders will set up and promote their own running groups, with support from the sports development unit.

Places are limited and will fill up fast. If you love running and want to share your passion for the sport and inspire others to give it a go, get in touch. Call 01752 307008 or email sportsdevelopment@plymouth.gov.uk.
