Cinema goers are being given the chance to enjoy a series of three films in impressive and surprising surroundings this Autumn, the first film featuring Joan Rivers in her debut acting role.

The Swimmer, starring Burt Lancaster, gave Rivers' – who died last week - her first, although brief, big-screen appearance. She appears as ''Joan'' in this movie about a man who plans to ''swim across the county'' using his neighbours' pools.

This classic 1960’s film will be screened in the classic 1960’s surroundings of The Council Chamber at Plymouth’s Civic Centre on Saturday 4 October at 8pm.

The films have been funded by a bid to the British Film Institute from Plymouth Arts Centre and form part of the Walk On Exhibition brought to Plymouth thanks to a partnership between Peninsula Arts: Plymouth University, Plymouth Arts Centre, Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery and Plymouth College of Art Gallery.

Also being screened, as part of the River Tamar Project, is Dead Man, starring Johnny Depp in Devonport’s Welcome Hall.  Prior to this is a chance to see Imperfect Cinema’s unique vision of Plymouth archive film mashed-up with newly shot footage of the city and all set to a new live soundtrack.

Daniel Radcliffe’s 2012 horror blockbuster, The Woman in Black will be screened on Saturday 29 November, the venue for which is still to be announced.

Film Walks led by artists and punctuated with snippets of archive film from South West Film and Television archive form part of the project and take place in the same vicinity and on the same days as the films.

Booking is essential for the Film Walks and advisable for the Film Screenings on 01752 206114 or online at www.plymouthartscentre.org.
