Devonport Emergency Notification System testing

Plymouth City Council will be testing its Emergency Notification System next week (commencing 17 November).

The system, which was introduced in Plymouth in 2006, is a free text messaging service for residents living near the Devonport Site – ‘The Dockyard’. In the unlikely event of a nuclear emergency at the site, people who have registered for the service would receive a phone message with information about the incident and how to protect themselves.

The Operators need to test the system and residents and businesses who have signed up will receive a test message. You will not need to take any action as this is only a communications test.

If you live or work in the public information zone around Devonport and you haven’t yet registered, you can do so online at www.plymouth.gov.uk/warnandinform  or by calling the Council on 01752 668000.  You can choose how you would like to receive messages – by landline, mobile phone, text or all three ways.
