Plymouth firm helps school children stay safe

AS the nights get darker primary school pupils are being helped to stay safe on the streets of Plymouth. Children at Widewell Primary School have been donated a batch of hi-vis vests to help them stay seen on the city’s roads.

Plympton-based company SSG Training Consultancy Ltd, which offers health, safety and environmental training and consultancy, organised the donation encouraging youngsters to take an interest in road safety awareness.

Community Engagement Officer at SSG, Denise Maclean, said: “We are delighted to provide Widewell Primary School with hi-vis vests. SSG is keen to promote safety awareness not just in the workplace but in the wider community.

“We hope that by providing high-visibility vests, the children will be better seen when going on school trips in the local area, which often involves crossing busy roads.”

Teachers at the school felt that as the nights draw in and as the children get involved in more off-site activities it was important that the children could be seen when walking to and from the school on class trips.

“The staff and children at Widewell Primary School are extremely pleased with their new hi-vis vests,” said Acting Headteacher at Widewell Primary School, Beverley Holder.

“The children have already tried them on and are looking forward to wearing them out the next time they are off site. The vests will ensure that our children are very visible when we are on school trips.  We are very thankful to SSG.”
