Blockbuster stunt man to visit Plymouth’s Sci-Fi event

Stunt man who has acted in Star Wars, Superman 2, Batman and several Bond films will be amongst a number of international film and tv stars making an appearance at Dev Con this weekend.

Jim Dowdall, who has been a stunt double for Harrison Ford during filming for Indian Jones, appeared in Star Wars and has clocked up performances in 9 James Bond films rubbing shoulders with Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan will be at the event that takes place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October at the Plymouth Guildhall.

Visitors will be able to attend between 10.30am and 4pm and hear the tales from the industry and purchase a signed photograph.

Joining Jim will be Peter Roy, who has starred in numerous episodes of Dr Who, as well as Star Wars and science fiction tv series Blakes 7.

Ian Liston who played the cult character Wes Janson in Star Wars will also be attending this event, which is named the South West’s biggest sci-fi, comic, toy and film fayre.

Popular and exclusive goods from the sci-fi world will be available to buy as 70 traders will be selling comics, toys, jewellery, fashion, homeware and film & tv replica’s.

Everyone is encouraged to come dressed up as their favourite sci-fi characters and join the hundreds of costumed visitors attending the event.

Those that enter the MINE CRAFT area can watch demonstrations and put their skills to the test before placing blocks together to build anything they can imagine - like the Minecraft video game. For those that want to enter the competition, children are invited to create a 1 minute ‘How To’ video, displaying any build of their choice. Extra points are provided to those that incorporate a Sci-Fi or Film theme, with themselves as the main character.

Lea Shelford, Organiser from Events Frontier, said: “Our motto is to promote reading and illustration through the medium of comics and graphic novels and the Dev Con events help us to show that this can be done by engaging the imagination and having fun.

“We have been hosting these events for a few years now and they are really well-received and popular. The sci-fi genre isn’t just popular with children but budding entrepreneurs, actors and sci-fi enthusiasts - of all ages. It’s a lovely weekend and I’d encourage everyone to unlock their imagination and dive in!”

Tickets can be bought in advance, from Final Frontier stores in Plymouth, Exeter or St Austell, or bought on the day at the Plymouth Guildhall. Entrance is £3 each, children under 8 years old go free. There are special rates for family and 2 Day Passes.
