New Lord Mayor designate of Plymouth announced
Councillor Pauline Murphy, a Labour Councillor for the Efford and Lipson ward, will take over the reins from the current Lord Mayor, Councillor Dr John Mahony.
The ceremony took place today in the Lord's Mayor Dining Room at the Council House.
Councillor Murphy said: "I am extremely honoured to have been selected for the position of Lord Mayor. To be given the opportunity to be able to represent this fantastic city in this role, a city where I was born and have lived all my life is an amazing privilege. Along with my consort Councillor Brian Vincent, we will be working really hard to promote Plymouth and are looking forward to meeting many of the citizens, charities and businesses of Britain’s Ocean City.”
The 56 year old Councillor is currently employed as a regional data co-ordinator for Southwest Public Transport Information (Traveline Southwest), who are very pleased to support her in her role as Lord Mayor.
Councillor Murphy was elected as a councillor for the Efford and Lipson Ward in 2010 the ward which she is still proud to represent. She has also served as Deputy Lady Mayoress between 2005 and 2006, Lady Mayoress between 2008 and 2009 and Deputy Lord Mayor between 2014 and 2015. She is currently a member of the Co-op Management Scrutiny Board, Vice Chair of Working Plymouth Scrutiny Committee and is the Chair of the Armed Forces Covenant
