Rapid Relief Team support Superhero Children’s Fun Run
Ahuge thank you has gone out to Rapid Relief Team (RRT) in Plymouth, for offering their support at the Superhero Children’s Fun Run, in aid of our Gold Dust Appeal.
The team have pledged to help the event, taking place on Saturday 4 June at 2.30pm, at the Brickfields Sports Centre, Plymouth, by providing volunteers to help on the day, as well as providing the catering, gazebos and other event materials.
Paul Melvin, Local Team Leader for RRT, said: “RRT Plymouth is excited to be supporting the Superheroes Fun Run and the great work that the Gold Dust Appeal is doing in raising money for the refurbishment of the children’s ward at Derriford.
“All members of RRT Plymouth are from the area and have either children or friends that have attended Derriford, so it is good to give something back. RRT will have approximately 30 members of its local team supporting the event and will be providing catering and general support on the day.
“Please do come and join in with the fun and have an afternoon to remember. More than that, you will be giving your time and raising money to make life a little easier for those that have to stay in hospital.”
Emma Cronin, Gold Dust Fundraising Manager, said: “Paul and the Rapid Response Team are experienced, organised and an all-round fabulous organisation to work with. We’re a very small team, with only one member of staff, so without their support, it would have been very difficult to organise what we hope is going to be a great community event.
“I would like to thank all of the volunteers involved, you will be such a huge support to our Superhero Children’s Fun Run!”
In addition to the Superhero Children’s Fun Run and the Mini Superhero Toddle, there will be bouncy castles, food, entertainment from Magical Moments and Amanda's Pop Kids, face painting, sumo suits, a Teddy Bears Picnic and lots of stalls.
The Gold Dust Appeal aims to raise £100,000 to create a bright, exciting and welcoming environment throughout the children’s and young people’s areas on level 12 of Derriford Hospital.
This inaugural event is being supported by Derriford Children’s Cancer Service and Children’s Happy Hospital Fund, who are united in their support of the appeal. We all want to be able to care for children in a stimulating and sensitive environment, with bright and spacious surroundings, which will provide greater comfort and privacy for children and their families.
The Rapid Relief Team is a volunteer, not-for-profit organisation, and set up to support local communities in times of need. This is done by serving food and drinks to emergency services personnel, helping out at homeless missions and support work for other charities.
