Family pay tribute to man killed in Plymouth collision

The family of a 46-year-old man who died after being in a collision with a van in Plymouth on Thursday 29 December 2016, have paid tribute.

Kenny Elphick from Devonport, Plymouth, was fatally injured in the collision on Outland Road.

His family have paid the following tribute: “As a family we have lost a very special person. Kenny will always be a loving son to Graham, a cheeky brother to Sharon and Rob, a father to Yasmin and an Uncle to Alex, Hayley and Daniel.

“This tragic accident has left a void in our hearts which can never be filled. Memories of Kenny will stay with those who loved him and had known him.

“The times ahead are going to be tough for us but knowing that you are now re-united with mum can give us reassurance that you are safe now and cradled in her arms.”

Emergency services were called to Outland Road at 5.35pm after the collision outside the Esso Home Park service station.

Mr Elphick was crossing the road when he was struck by a white Ford Transit Connect van in lane one of the Manadon-bound carriageway.

He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital where he died a short time later.

The van driver, a 41-year-old man from Plymouth, was not injured in the collision.

The Manadon-bound carriageway was closed between Lyndhurst Road and the Venn Lane footbridge for five-and-a-half hours while officers carried out a forensic examination of the scene.

Officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation team are investigating the collision and are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
