Senior Lecturer in Early Modern History at Liverpool Hope University, John Appleby, looks at the history of women pirates. He has published widely on aspects of English and Irish maritime and colonial history during the 16th and 17th century and most recently the publication Under the Bloody Flag: Pirates of the Tudor Age (Stroud, 2009).
