Fundraising total announced by Otter Nurseries Plymouth

The charity team at Otter Nurseries garden centre in Brixton has raised an amazing £2,359 for their chosen charity of the year 2016.

The money was raised through staff events, a fun day and collecting tins at the tills.

The charity 'Dogs for Good' was set up in 1986 by Frances Hay who believed she could help disabled people by training assistance dogs. Its mission is to bring independence and companionship to many people through highly trained assistance dogs. The dogs are a superb support for many physically disabled children and adults, and for families with a child with autism.

Dogs for Good also explores other ways dogs can help individuals, families and communities, and through the PAWS family dog service has helped many families consider the helping potential of a pet dog. When people aren't able to have their own dog, the charity looks at other ways to bring people and dogs together.

Dogs for Good has recently started to train activity and therapy dogs to work with specialist handlers in communities and schools.

In addition to fundraising for the charity, the Otter Nurseries branch also raised £1,160 for the Poppy Appeal.

This was the best collection made in the district, and Otter Nurseries Manager Philip Hewish would like to extend a big thank you to all Plymouth customers for digging deep.
