Dogs Trust Ilfracombe rehomes 100th dog
Tails are wagging at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe as the rehoming centre celebrates its 100th homeless hound this year finding a ‘fur-ever’ home.
Taking the accolade is Saxo, a 9-year-old Labrador cross, who has been adopted by Mrs Doris Matthews, from Bideford, after her dog, Clydie, also from Dogs Trust Ilfracombe, passed away.
Mrs Matthews said: “I rehomed my other dog Clydie in 2004, and when he passed on, I wanted to adopt another dog as it was strange not having a four-legged friend in the home. I’m happy I can open my door to Saxo, as he is an older dog, he’ll be able to enjoy his later years in a loving home.”
Dogs Trust Ilfracombe can care for around 65 dogs at any one time and last year rehomed more than 350 dogs to their forever homes.
Elise Watson, Dogs Trust Ilfracombe Rehoming Centre Manager, says: “It has certainly been a busy start to the year but it’s fantastic that so many people, like Mrs Matthews, want to give a dog a second chance. In the last few weeks we’ve rehomed dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages, from Collies to Crossbreeds, and to know that they’ve all headed off to their loving forever homes is wonderful.
“Sadly dogs arrive every week for a variety of reasons but thanks to the hundreds of people that come through our doors every month, we are able to find them their ideal home.”
