A number of tennis venues in and around Plymouth will open their courts to offer free tennis to kids, families and adults this Saturday and Sunday as part of the Lawn Tennis Association’s (LTA) Great British Tennis Weekend.
The Great British Tennis Weekend is a nationwide campaign to get more people to play tennis by offering a variety of tennis activities for free.
Hill Lane Junior Tennis Club (Saturday, 9am-3pm), Plympton Lawn Tennis Club (Saturday, 11am-4pm), St Budeaux Tennis Club (Saturday, 9am-3pm), South Devon Tennis Centre (Saturday, 12:30pm-2:00pm), Mannamead Lawn Tennis Club (Saturday, 2pm-4pm and Sunday, 10:30am-12:30pm) and Yelverton Tennis Club (Sunday, 10am-2pm) are among the local venues taking part on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 May, along with many more across Devon.
The sessions will be different at each of the participating sites and include Cardio Tennis, touchtennis, coaching for juniors and adults, and informal Free Play and Family Time sessions.
Georgina Loosemore, LTA Participation Manager, said: “Whether you’ve never picked up a racket before or you play regularly, there will be a Great British Tennis Weekend session to suit you and your friends and family! There are lots of fantastic tennis venues in and around Plymouth and it’s great to see so many of them getting involved in this national campaign to get more people playing tennis more often.”
Equipment will be provided and venues will be offering promotional deals on membership and coaching to participants on the day. Refreshments, BBQs and raffles will be part of the family-friendly days.
A second Great British Tennis Weekend will take place after the Wimbledon Championships on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 of July.
