Series of events planned to mark Dementia Action Week
A range of activities are taking place in Plymouth to mark Dementia Action Week 2018.
Organisations such as Plymouth City Council, Drake Circus, Improving Lives Plymouth, Age UK Plymouth, Moments Café and Community Hub and Derriford Hospital are taking part in events throughout the week to raise awareness of dementia and to encourage individuals and organisations to take action that will make everyday life better for people affected by dementia.
Carole Burgoyne, Strategic Director for People at Plymouth City Council, said: “It is great to see so many different partners in Plymouth working together to recognise Dementia Action Week. We are always looking at new ways that we can make Plymouth a more Dementia Friendly city. In 2016, Plymouth was named as Dementia City of the Year so we want to build on this and continue the good work.”
Claire Puckey, Dementia Friendly City Coordinator for Plymouth City Council said: “There are loads of great events taking place this year in Plymouth so if you want to know more about Dementia and how you can help make the city more Dementia Friendly then please do get involved.”
Ian Sherrif, Chair of Plymouth Dementia Action Alliance, said: “It is estimated that there are over 3000 people within Plymouth with dementia, with two-thirds of those living independently within the community.
“We hope that people take the opportunity during Dementia Action Week to find out more and get involved.”
