Plympton Academy students meet War Horse actors

Performing arts students at Plympton Academy found out what it’s like to be a professional actor when they welcomed two very special guests into school recently.

Thomas Dennis and Elizabeth Stretton, are both actors in the National Theatre’s production of War Horse, that has been playing to packed out audiences at the Theatre Royal. Thomas currently has the lead role of Albert Narracott and Elizabeth is a puppeteer.

The actors answered questions from the students about what it’s like being in a hugely acclaimed production like War Horse.

“Thomas spoke about his career pathway and training and Elizabeth shared her contrasting experiences in becoming a professional,” explained Director of Performing Arts at Plympton Academy, Jo Crook. “They spoke in detail about the importance of the ensemble and how every actor in the production is equally important in telling the story. The students were totally absorbed.”

Following the actors visit to school year 10 student, Daniel Hillon, said he was inspired. “I feel more motivated to succeed in the performing arts and that a future career is possible as long as you keep trying.'

Last month, Sir Michael Morpurgo officially opened the new performing arts building at the school. The Morpurgo Studios, includes music classrooms, practice rooms, a recording studio, drama studio and a theatre space.
