Talk: The Long Shadow Of 1914-18: Why the First World War Still Matters

As we approach the anniversary of the 1918 armistice which drew the fighting on the western front to a close, Dr Harry Bennett argues that the shock waves of the war continue to shape 21st-century Britain, our national identity, and the UK's place in the world.

Harry is Associate Professor in History at the University of Plymouth. His research examines the land, sea and air campaigns of the Second World War and interactions between the military, politicians and diplomats in the formulation of policy, and the development and execution of strategy.
