Plympton Academy students tuck into afternoon tea treat

A group of students from Plympton Academy were treated to afternoon
tea recently to celebrate their commitment to reading.
The students have been using the Accelerated Reader programme which
tracks and monitors their reading and comprehension skills. The
software programme showed that some students had read more than one
million words.
“It is very impressive how committed these students are to their
reading and I felt this needed to be recognised and celebrated with a
special treat,” explained the school librarian, Julie McGlinchey.
Year 8 student Eloise Trevor said: “It was nice to be recognised for
my reading and I hope I get invited again next year! I am currently
reading A Wrinkle In Time and it is really good.”
Fellow book loving student Ismaael Ali, also in Year 8, said: “Mrs
McGlinchey baked cakes and scones for us – they were delicious! My
favourite book is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.”
Head of English Claire Jones noted: “This is testament to the hard
work of both our students and our dedicated library manager Julie
McGlinchey, who always embodies our academy focus of reading for
pleasure.”
