'Magic Table' investment at Plymouth specialist care home
The Kanner Project in Billacombe has invested in a magic table to encourage social interaction and physical activity among its residents who have complex needs.
The Tovertafel UP is an innovative device which projects appropriately challenging games and applications onto a table, encouraging adults with disabilities to take part in physical activity and social interaction.
The Kanner Project provides specialist residential care for up to five residents with complex needs including those with autistic spectrum disorder, learning disabilities and challenging behaviours. The investment in a Tovertafel UP will enable non-verbal residents to interact and engage in stimulating activities they would normally be unable to access.
Salutem Healthcare, which owns the Kanner Project, has committed to the £7500 investment in order to pilot the application’s success in the region.
Vic Brelsford-Ward, manager of the Kanner Project, said: “At the Kanner Project, we’re absolutely committed to providing every possible opportunity to our residents, allowing them the best quality of life possible.
“The Tovertafel UP is a huge and exciting investment, not just for our residents but for the whole area, where we intend to develop befriending arrangements with partner facilities, so that the technology can be enjoyed more widely.”
Martyn Heginbotham, managing director (south) of Modus Care, part of Salutem Healthcare, said: “This technology will be a huge benefit to the residents of the Kanner Project and to the wider care-community throughout the region.
“At Salutem Healthcare, we’re committed to providing life-improving services within and beyond the physical walls of our facilities.”
