An adopters’ club set up by a Plymouth animal charity to support its ongoing work with unwanted pets is looking for new members to join its ‘pack.’

Woodside Animal Welfare Trust’s Adopters’ Club was started two years ago to enable people who have rehomed a pet from Woodside to help other animals in its care.

For every animal adopted from Woodside at Elfordleigh, new owners are asked to pay £65 for a cat and £125 for a crossbreed dog, for example.

However, in many cases, this barely covers the food, heating and general care costs of looking after the animal during its time at Woodside, let alone the bills for spaying/neutering, vaccinations, worming and flea treatments.

By joining the Adopters’ Club, supporters can help towards these costs and support other needy animals by contributing £2 a month or £24 a year, for which they will receive a Woodside calendar and newsletter.

Woodside’s deputy manager Dawn Cornish said: “We started the club as a way of people helping other animals like the one they have adopted.

“The club is purely for people who have adopted from Woodside. It’s a small amount that collectively makes a big.”

To find out more visit the charity’s website – www.woodsidesanctuary.org.uk, fill out and return the Adopters’ Club leaflet enclosed in the charity’s rehoming packs or send a cheque made out to Woodside Animal Welfare Trust, along with covering letter, to Woodside Sanctuary, Elfordleigh, Plympton, Plymouth PL7 5ED.
