Meeting the Ambassador
A group from Medics4Ukraine and the World Extreme Medicine faculty recently travelled to London to meet the Ukrainian Ambassador.
WEM Founder Mark Hannaford and Advanced Paramedic Luca Alfatti gave a presentation to His Excellency Vadym Prystaiko about the work of Medics4Ukraine, which they established in response to the Russian invasion.
They were accompanied by Jake Levene, a London Ambulance Paramedic who led the most recent team to Ukraine to train special operations medics, volunteer driver Rebecca Redding and Luca’s wife Sammy.
Mark, who is due to lead another training mission into Kherson within the next few weeks, said: “It was an honour to meet the Ambassador especially at this emotive time when we are all remembering the shock of the start of the war just one year ago.
“It was an ideal opportunity to tell him about our work, the amazing volunteers from the UK and Ukraine who are critical to the successful delivery of supplies and training, plus our plans for the future.”
World Extreme Medicine, which is headquartered in Axminster, Devon, sent its first ‘Medics4Ukraine’ convoy to Ukraine in April 2022. To date, nine convoys have delivered almost £2M of trauma medical supplies and training for medics on the frontline. Transport costs are fully underwritten by World Extreme Medicine, whilst supplies including first aid kits, tourniquets, bandages and paramedic bags, are either donated or funded by donations.
