Bellway helps fund support group sessions for parents of children with additional needs

Bellway South West is funding support group sessions in Mid Devon for parents of children with additional needs. The funding will go towards the venue expenses, refreshments and volunteer expenses.

The housebuilder, which is building new homes in Willand, Crediton and Tiverton, has donated £400 to Unite Carers. The Tiverton-based charity runs a programme of support groups for unpaid carers in a range of circumstances across the district.

The charity runs various group sessions including Let’s Unite at No 4 Peer Support Group, which offers friendship, help and activities to parent carers of school-age children with additional needs.

Sharon Trerise, General Manager at Unite Carers, said: “It’s fantastic news that Bellway agreed to donate £400 to help this support group.  We also organise seasonal outdoor activities for the whole family to enjoy in a safe, quiet environment.

“Our charity is supported by almost 60 volunteers including 7 trustees and we are solely reliant on private donations and grants to keep on running. That’s why we are always grateful when we receive donations so we can provide additional support for our existing carers as well as helping other carers who reach out to us.”

Unite Carers has been running for 20 years and provides a variety of services including face to face and telephone befriending, form-filling, IT support, signposting and support groups for various carers and their dependants.

The charity also provides a sitting service where carers leave their loved ones in a safe environment and have free time to themselves for a few hours.

Rachel Way, Sales Manager for Bellway South West, said: “As well as providing new homes in Mid Devon, we are keen to support this deserving charity which does so much to support parent carers in the district.

“We hope Unite Carers continues to go from strength to strength with the work they do and the services they provide and that our donation helps make a difference for parents who are caring for children with special educational needs or any other type of additional need.”
