Drake Circus hosts Age UK Plymouth walking challenge
Drake Circus will welcome volunteers from Age UK Plymouth tomorrow (Saturday 6th April) as they take on a challenge to walk as many miles as possible to raise vital funds for the charity.
Step Out for Age UK Plymouth, as part of its 50 Miles in May challenge, is encouraging people to walk, run, jog, crawl, wheel, or even skip their way to 50 miles, all in the pursuit of raising awareness of the benefits of exercise on wellbeing and highlighting charity’s work helping everyone make the most of later life.
The team of volunteers are set to take part in the challenge, taking it in turns to walk on a treadmill located at the centre’s Cornwall Street exit between 9am and 6pm, and visitors to the centre are being encouraged to get involved and support them.
Several members of the Age UK team taking part on Saturday will also use the treadmill session to train for a separate challenge they will be taking on in September – climbing Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s highest mountain.
Greg Lumley, centre director at Drake Circus and The Barcode, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming the team from Age UK Plymouth to the centre this weekend. Their challenge will not only help promote the wellbeing benefits of exercise but also support the important work they do in our local community.
“I’d encourage visitors to join us in cheering on the fantastic volunteers when they are completing their challenge, as well as wishing those travelling to Morocco for the Mount Toubkal trek the very best of luck!”
