Cancer Lifeline South West Invites Families to Enjoy Life Changing Springtime Fun at Ugbrooke House
Cancer Lifeline South West (CLSW) is looking forward to a day of laughter, entertainment, and community spirit as it hosts its first ever Family Fun Day on Sunday 27th April, in the name of community and fundraising.
The event will take place in the beautiful grounds of Ugbrooke House, near Newton Abbot, and promises a packed programme of activities for all ages. Doors open at 11am and the day runs to 4pm.
Visitors to the Family Fun Day can enjoy an entertaining dog show; exciting sports demonstrations and taster sessions including classes with former Exeter Chiefs and England rugby player, Don Armand; foraging walks with Colin Wheeler-James of Ground Up Cookery; games stalls for both adults and kids; the Human Fruit Machine; flora and fauna walks with Chudleigh WILD; a food court with BBQ, pizzas and crepes plus sweet treats, hot drinks and a licensed bar; and live music from noon. The winning tickets from the Prize Draw will be drawn at 3pm by David ‘Fitz’ FitzGerald. Plus they will have the chance to explore the grounds of Ugbrooke House, designed by Capability Brown.
Entry to the event will be just £5 and kids get in for free, provided they are accompanied by an adult. Dogs are also welcome, but must be kept on a lead at all times.
Since its founding in 2002, CLSW has provided therapeutic 'Time to Retune' breaks for people who have completed cancer treatment, along with their primary carers. These breaks offer a much-needed opportunity to process their experience and start looking to the future. This support is provided free of charge, and with no public funding, so the charity relies on fundraising, sponsorship, and donations.
"One in two of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetime, and almost everyone knows someone who has been impacted by it," said Donna Cook, Chair of Trustees. "The feedback we receive shows how valuable these breaks are for attendees, as well as for their families, friends, and colleagues. We hope this Family Fun Day will help us raise much-needed funds to continue offering this vital service."
The charity is thrilled that Alexander and Lucy Clifford have donated the grounds of Ugbrooke House for the day, and that Newton Abbot Rotary Club will be managing the car parking. Trustee and event organiser Kate McCormick said, "We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our partners and the community. Organising an event like this takes a lot of hard work, but we know it will be worth it when we see families coming together and having fun. Now we just need the sunshine to make it even more special."
An event like this would be impossible without sponsors. CLSW is grateful to DCW Polymers; Ground Up Cookery; Hurn Recycling; Sampson Armand Ltd; and The Old Rydon Inn for their support. Also to Chudfest, Chudleigh Carnival, Chudleigh Community Primary School and the army of volunteers who will be working at Ugbrooke on the day.
