Devon CPRE workshop to steer town and parish councils through planning process
Devon CPRE, the only charity that protects Devon’s countryside from inappropriate development, is holding a special workshop in Tiverton on 20 May to help town and parish councils achieve the best planning outcomes for their local community.
Experienced independent Planning Consultant Jo Widdecombe will guide local councillors through the complexities of the planning process and explain what it’s important for them to know when they respond to applications.
Devon CPRE Director Penny Mills says, “How town and parish councils respond, as consultees in the planning process, can significantly influence the outcome. Even though the process seems to be burdened by convoluted policies and obscure jargon, a rudimentary understanding of areas like the National Planning Policy Framework, the 5-year land supply and neighbourhood plans, can go a long way. What statutory consultees say and how they say it can make a real difference to what the local planning authority ultimately decides.
“We have been using Jo Widdecombe’s planning expertise for years. Jo will be sharing her wisdom and tips at this free workshop for members and anyone who wishes to pay to attend. Participants will leave better equipped to speak up for Devon’s environment and its communities.”
This year, the workshop will look at the new draft Planning and Infrastructure Bill, the progress of the English Devolution White Paper and its implications for local planning, and the impact of the forthcoming national Land Use Framework.
The workshop will take place from 10 am to 1 pm at the Tiverton Hotel, Blundells Road, Tiverton, EX16 4DB.
Admission is free for member organisations (up to three people can attend from each member council) and for non-members the cost is just £20 per person, including light refreshments.
Local councils can book their place by contacting Penny Mills on info@cpredevon.org.uk or 01392 966737.
