Residents cheer for Chloe's baby gender reveal
A mum-to-be has honoured the elderly people she helps care for in Plymouth by involving them in the gender reveal for the baby she is expecting in December.
Chloe Bryant, 26, works as a kitchen assistant at Butterfly Lodge Nursing Home in St Budeaux, an award-winning nursing home for people living with dementia.
When colleagues were told about Chloe’s plan to do the gender reveal for her baby at work, they decorated the lounge of the nursing home in pink and blue, and residents were encouraged to ally themselves with Team Pink or Team Blue.
The reveal was done by Chloe letting off a small cannon which fired pink confetti into the air.
“Everyone cheered,” said Chloe, “I couldn't have felt more surrounded by love.”
"I've been working at Butterfly Lodge for 10 years, so I've got lots of friends among the staff and residents.
"I knew how much everyone would enjoy it if I did my gender reveal at the home, and it was great!
"For many of the residents this was a first. Gender reveal parties weren't a thing in the days when they were having their babies, but they all seemed to revel in it and were very excited to find out I'm having a girl.
"My partner Justin and I were keen to learn the gender of our baby. Now we know we're having a girl, it's easier to visualise our future as a family, and of course it makes it simpler to decide on names, as well as stocking up on suitable baby clothes ahead of the birth.
"We've been together for seven years and we’re very excited to become parents, and my colleagues and the residents are obviously excited for us too!
“I plan to bring my baby to Butterfly Lodge to meet them all as often as I can. I know they'll love that."
Butterfly Lodge is run by specialist dementia care providers Camelot Care who have other homes in Bridgwater, Wellington and Yeovil and will be opening a fifth in Holsworthy in Devon later this year.
