University Hospitals Plymouth reports rise in BBQ injuries with children and older adults among those treated
Patients in Plymouth have ended up in hospital after BBQ accidents every year since 2022, new NHS figures reveal.
The data, obtained via Freedom of Information by outdoor living brand Vonhaus, shows that University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust has dealt with seven BBQ-related admissions and six A&E attendances over the last four years.
Yearly breakdown:
-
2022: 1 admission, 3 A&E attendances
-
2023: 1 admission, 1 A&E attendance
-
2024: 4 admissions, 0 A&E attendances
-
2025 to date: 1 admission, 2 A&E attendances
The cases span all ages, from children under ten to people in their seventies, showing that BBQ accidents can affect anyone, regardless of experience at the grill.
