Banton the hero as Argyle beat Exeter in Devon derby

Plymouth Argyle 1 Exeter City 0

League Two, Saturday 20th March 2013

A finely struck goal on the cusp of half time further enhanced Jason Banton's heroic reputation this season and delivered three vital points for Plymouth as they beat Exeter City 1-0.

The Home Park crowd roared their delight at the final whistle, after enduring some pressure from Exeter in the final minutes and secure a victory to lift supporters' hearts and lift the Pilgrims four points clear of the League Two relegation zone. Plymouth were worthy winners after a passionate derby display that will boost John Sheridan's hopes of keeping his side in the Football League.

Of Argyle's nearest rivals near the foot of the table, only Accrington Stanley also managed to win in the Good Friday and Saturday games, a further boost for Plymouth's survival hopes.

The result is a blow for Exeter, chasing a play-off place at the other end of the table.

The increasingly talismanic Jason Banton has now scored six goals for Argyle since his January loan deal from Crystal Palace. The Pilgrims have won three games on the trot - a run of form which should encourage confidence for the remainder of the season.
