Boston remembered at Plymouth half marathon

The 20th year of Plymouth's half marathon began with 30 seconds of silence to remember those killed and injured in the bomb explosions at the Boston Marathon.

Three people were killed and more than 180 injured in Boston nearly two weeks ago when two bombs were exploded close to the finish line of the race.

Plymouth's annual half marathon was won by London runner Tadele Geremew in a time of one hour and nine minutes ahead of approximately 4,000 competitors. Local athlete Jim Cole from Tavistock finished second in the 13 mile race.

The event was attended by four London 2012 athletes. Plymouth's Heather Fell started the race and diving pair Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow, also locals, plus swimmer Antony James were present to give the day's proceedings an extra flair. 

The half marathon began at 9 am and there was also a special mile race in which more than 1,350 schoolchildren took part.
