Fire service to hold Blue Light Day event for Deaf Awareness Week
To highlight Deaf Awareness Week, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service is holding an afternoon of activities for families with children affected by sensory impairment at its Service Training Centre, Glen Road, Plympton, on Saturday 4 May, between 12pm and 4pm.
Station Manager Ros Clarke, Community Safety Manager for Plymouth, has linked up with Plymouth & District Deaf Children’s Society and Moorvision to put on a whole range of activities.
Station Manager Clarke explained: “We would like to invite all local families affected by sensory impairment throughout Plymouth and the surrounding area to join us for the afternoon where they will be able to enjoy a variety of activities and demonstrations by our firefighters.
“We will also be giving fire safety advice within the home and will be offering home fire safety visits for those who are eligible, which may include the fitting of specially designed smoke detectors to alert people with hearing difficulties of a fire at night.”
