Sun shines on Freedom Community Festival
Fine sunny weather is forecast for this weekend's Freedom Community Festival in Freedom Fields Park.
The Festival Weekend is the culmination of a week of community activities around the park and other venues in the city.
Open to all and free to enter, what better opportunity to bring a picnic blanket and relax in the sun with family and friends this weekend. The festival includes music on two stages, a dance tent, stalls, kids' activities, inflatables, a bar and on-site catering that includes the popular community café.
The historic Freedom Fields is close to the Greenbank and Lipson areas of the city, and is around a 15 minute walk from the city centre. It was restored in 2000 and has a Green Flag Award and some of the best panoramic views in Plymouth, looking out across Plymouth Sound and beyond.
An important historical feature of the city, the park gained its name after the defeat of the French in 1403. The Siege Monument commemorates the victory of Parliamentarian forces over the Royalists during the Civil War, and the park also has two Victorian shelters.
The building at the Greenbank Terrace was Freedom Fields Hospital between 1930 and 1998.
