Alessandra set for Sheridan reunion as he joins Argyle
Striker Lewis Alessandra is set to become Argyle manager John Sheridan's second summer signing.
The 24-year-old was offered a new contract by League 2 rivals Morecambe at the end of last season, but has instead opted to join the Pilgrims on a two-year deal, say the Pilgrims.
He will officially become an Argyle player on July 1.
An Argyle spokesperson said the manager "was of course pleased to have signed Lewis, nearly six years after he gave an 18-year-old Alessandra his debut when the pair were at Oldham together."
John Sheridan said: "I'm very pleased to have signed him; I think he's at a good age and he can be a really good player for us.
"When he first came on the scene I thought that potentially he could play at a really high level but he took a bit of a backward step when he was at Oldham.
"Fair play to him, though, he went to Morecambe and sorted himself out and for the last two seasons, he's probably been Morecambe's most consistent player.
"He's got a lot of things to his game - he can play on the wing and anywhere across the so-called front four - but I like to see him up front.
"He reminds me of Jack Lester, who was at Chesterfield. I think he's got the attributes to be that kind of player and I think I can get the best out of him and get him to score goals."
Heywood-born Lewis graduated from the Boundary Park youth system to make his first-team debut under Sheridan in October 2007.
Following a short-loan spell with Chester City, where he scored once in four appearances, Alessandra left Oldham in June 2011 having netted eight times in 34 league starts.
Next, Lewis headed for Morecambe, scoring his first Shrimpers goal as a substitute in their August 2011 2-0 win over Aldershot.
The Green Army will recall his goal against the Pilgrims at the Globe Arena later on that season.
Last year, Lewis started the season in fine form, scoring Morecambe's first goal in their memorable Capital One Cup first round win over Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.
Three more goals followed - against Chesterfield, York City and Port Vale - all games which the Shrimpers went on to win.
Lewis will report to Home Park to meet his new team-mates when they return for pre-season training.
