Shock exit for Serena as Murray marches on

If you thought we'd had enough shock exits for one Wimbledon, think again. The odds-on favourite for the women's title, Serena Williams lost in three sets to Germany's Sabine Lisicki.

Lisicki, the number 23 seed, won 6-2 1-6 6-4 in a rollercoaster match, topping the earlier exits of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova for surprise value.

Andy Murray progressed to the quarter-finals defeating Mikhail Youzhny of Russia in straight sets 6-4 7-6 (7-5) 6-1. Despite some testing moments in the second set, Murray eventually eased through against the 31-year-old Youzhny and will now face the unseeded former top ten ranked Fernando Verdasco of Spain in the quarters tomorrow (Wednesday 3 July).

Murray is now the only remaining Britain in the singles events after Laura Robson was beaten 7-6 (8-6) 7-5 by the Estonian Kaia Kanepi in her fourth round math. A 'gutted' Robson had opportunities in the match but will have gained valuable experience from an excellent run in the tournament.

The men's number one seed, Novak Djokovic had little difficulty in overcoming the veteran German Tommy Haas in straight sets, 6-1 6-4 7-6 and will play the Czech number seven seed Tomáš Berdych next. Berdych beat Australian Bernard Tomic 7-6 6-7 6-4 6-4.

Two dangerous players, men's number four seed David Ferrer of Spain and number seven seed Juan Martin del Potro, both won their fourth round ties.
