Two Plymouth men charged after armed burglary

Two men in their twenties from Plymouth have received a police charge of burglary with violence.

The two men were arrested following an aggravated burglary in the Greenbank area of Plymouth on Wednesday night (10 July).

Thomas Oyler, aged 24, has been released on bail to appear before South and West Devon Magistrates Court on 31 July 2013.

Michael Saville, aged 29, remains in custody to appear before South and West Devon Magistrates Court today (Friday 12 July).

At around 11.25pm on Wednesday, two men allegedly forced entry to an occupied flat, armed with a knife, and stole a smart phone.

Armed officers were deployed to an address in Notte Street at around 5am where two men were arrested and were taken to Launceston police station to be interviewed.

It is believed the suspects were known to the victim.

The incident was one of two in the city requiring the deployment of teams of armed officers on Wednesday evening.  The other - in the Laira area of the city - followed reports of two men seen carrying weapons.

Chief Inspector Ian Drummond-Smith, from Charles Cross Police Station, would like to reassure the public. He said: “This burglary was not connected to the incident in the Laira area of Plymouth earlier in the evening.

“It is very unusual for police to deploy armed officers twice in one night but I hope the prompt and decisive action of the police in taking these two men into custody reassures the people of Plymouth.

“I would like to commend the professionalism of our officers who have worked very hard indeed overnight.”
